THE BRIDGE
The New Jazz Bakery Newsletter
The Bridge is the middle, and often most memorable part of a song. It's the melody that bridges the verse and the chorus. Ever since we lost our longtime home at the Helms Bakery in Culver City, we've been building a bridge between the past and the future. The future of course is our exciting new home in Culver City, which you'll be reading about below. In the meantime, we'd like to keep you up to date about all our exciting news with our quarterly newsletter. Please let us know what you think. And if you like our new look, please check out our brand new website at  jazzbakery.org.

Our New Home

The Jazz Bakery is working with the Annenberg Foundation, the City of Culver City and renowned architect Frank Gehry  to build a permanent new home. Our new building will be situated in the heart of Culver City's burgeoning downtown arts district right next to the Kirk Douglas Theater. And in exciting news, trumpeter and Lincoln Center artistic director Wynton Marsalis has just agreed to be our project adviser, giving us the benefit of all he's learned during the evolution of Jazz at Lincoln Center. The new Jazz Bakery will present year-round performances and educational programs in two state-of-the-art theaters, with an art gallery and cafe/bar. The Jazz Bakery will soon be mounting a capital campaign to raise funds for the new building. Click here to read more...

Our 20th Anniversary

The Jazz Bakery will be celebrating its 20th anniversary at several events during 2013. We're starting with a 2 month mini-fest in January and February, mostly at the historic Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City, right next door to our new home. Some of the artists currently programmed are the Danilo Perez Trio, the all star trio of Steve Kuhn, Buster Williams and Joey Baron, Kenny Garrett, Julian Lage, and a special Valentines Day show. Check in at jazzbakery.org to find out who's playing. Come celebrate with us!

Many of you will shortly receive a letter from us asking for your help. While we're building our new home in Culver City, we look to you to help support all that we do in the name of jazz. Together, we can light the spark that illuminates jazz as an art form, and provides a crucial center for performance in Southern California. Click here for more informationFuture Fund
Gauthier
New Executive Director
Last March we hired the Jazz Bakery's first executive director Jeff Gauthier. Jeff is known to many of you as a musician and #1 Rising Star Record Producer in the 2012 Downbeat Critic's Poll. As co-artistic director of the Angel City Jazz Festival, Jeff has bridged the gap between Jazz Bakery and Angel City. However Jeff now takes a new role assisting artistic director Ruth Price in preparing the Jazz Bakery to build its exciting new home. Here's an article int he LA Times.

New Tumblr Jukebox
Ever wonder what music your favorite artists listen to? We do. So we started a listening blog called Jazz Bakery Jukebox. It's basically Desert Island Discs with commercial-free streaming music and mobile apps. Luring guest DJs from the the Jazz Bakery marquee, our "Artist's Choice" series lets you hear the classics, the deep cuts and the obscure tracks treasured by the pros - accompanied by original liner notes. It's one way to keep the music playing between shows. We hope you'll check out our online Jukebox from time to time. It's user-friendly and totally free!
Please let us know what you think about our new Newsletter.  We want to stay in touch with you and let you know about all the good news at the Jazz Bakery.

Sincerely,

Ruth Price
